Rental

New members can borrow equipment from the club free of charge for the first three months. After that, you can buy your own equipment or keep borrowing it for a rental fee.

Children start with plastic equipment (a plastic foil and mask), which they can also borrow from the club free of charge. Adults use real equipment lent by the club from the start.

At Ljubljana Fencing Club we fence épée.

Buying equipment

If you decide to buy your own kit, the club can order equipment from the German manufacturer Fence with fun for you.

Fencing equipment

Fencing equipment comes in two parts: protective equipment and equipment for registering hits.

  • Protective equipment: glove, mask, jacket, underplastron (protective vest), breeches, long socks, a chest protector for women and a groin protector for men.
  • Electric equipment: the weapon, the body wire and, for sabre and foil, a special conductive jacket (lamé) to register hits.

Three weapons

There are three weapons – épée, foil and sabre. They differ in appearance, weight, the way hits are scored and the valid target area.

  • Épée

    Épée: Valid target area (coloured)
    Épée: The weapon

Hits are scored with the point only. The whole body is valid target. In a double hit, both fencers score.

  • Foil

    Foil: Valid target area (coloured)
    Foil: The weapon

Hits are scored with the point only. Only the torso is valid target. In a double hit, the point goes to the fencer with right of way.

  • Sabre

    Sabre: Valid target area (coloured)
    Sabre: The weapon

Both thrusts and cuts count. The target is everything above the waist. In a double hit, the point goes to the fencer with right of way.
